Key Intake and Application Deadlines in Canada
The academic year in Canada typically begins in September, with universities offering two main terms: Fall (September to December) and Winter (January to April). Traditionally, the focus has been on the September intake, which includes orientation sessions both online and in-person in late August and early September.
In recent years, some universities have started offering additional intakes in January, May, and September for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Key Deadlines for Applications
- Undergraduate Programs:
The final deadlines to apply for the September undergraduate intake typically range from January 15th to February 1st, depending on the institution. - Graduate Programs:
For September intake, deadlines can be as early as December, particularly for doctoral programs.
Doctoral programs, in particular, have early deadlines due to the availability of funding opportunities like teaching and research assistantships.
These programs also require securing a doctoral supervisor, which is another reason for the early application timeline.
Conditional Admissions
Although you may not have your final transcripts until July before your September start, admissions offices normally will offer conditional Letters of Acceptance based on the transcripts you provide them to date.
This ensures you can secure your spot while completing your current studies.
Colleges
Please note that colleges in Canada are generally more flexible with their application deadlines, providing more opportunities for students to apply throughout the year.
